For those who are curious why W3C I18N group may lynch (!) David in this
case, there is a new W3C standard on track called "Character Model for the
World Wide Web" at <http://www.w3.org/TR/charmod/> that mentions:

        "[W3C] Specifications MUST NOT define any assignments of private
         use code points.
