University Assistant (PhD position)
Start date/duration:
from 15.09.2024
for 4 years
Administrative unit:
Department of Computer Science
Extent of employment:
20 hours per week; will be increased to 30 hours per week once the
dissertation agreement has been signed
Job Description:
In this position you are expected to write a dissertation in a stimulating environment using the university's infrastructure. You will hold your own lectures, tutor students and participate in administration. 50% of the working time is reserved for the thesis.
Main tasks:
• Dissertation in the field of databases and data engineering;
• Independent research in the field of databases and data
engineering, e.g. in the areas of machine learning, data
analytics, information retrieval, recommender systems or data and
text mining;
• Teaching;
• Student supervision and scientific publications;
• Organizational and administrative tasks;
• Training and further education.
Required qualifications:
• Completed Master's, Magister or Diploma degree in Computer Science
or related fields;
• Good knowledge of databases, information retrieval and data
engineering;
• Good knowledge of German (teaching);
• Good knowledge of English;
• Ability to work in a team;
• Leadership and communication skills in student supervision.

The minimum gross salary (stipulated by collective agreement) for 20 hours per week amounts to Euro 1.789 per month (14 times)*. The salary will be increased to Euro 2.683 for 30 hours per week once the dissertation agreement has been signed and sent to the Personnel Department. The salary will be higher if you have worked in a similar position before.
