Folks,
The LaTeX Project is in the process of considering changes to the
LaTeX Project Public License (LPPL). I have tried to summarize
some of the concerns that Debian people have expressed for them,
but since I don't completely agree with some of those objections,
don't complete understand some others, and have yet to see a fully
comprehensive review here or elsewhere, I cannot address all the
issues that various people have raised.
I suggest that those with concerns about the LPPL take the time to
give it a hard look and put together a point-by-point review of
the license. Once that's done, I (or someone else) can share that
review with the LaTeX people so that they can have some hard
information to go on rather than the vague rumors that ``Debian
people don't like the LPPL'' or ``OSI doesn't think it's a free
license'' that they have now. They can't fix problems they can't
see.
Thanks for your time and effort.
