----------------------------------------------------------------------

The project consists of research in the field of x-ray spectroscopy of two-dimensional magnetic materials. The goal is the characterization of these materials in the few- or single-monolayer limit and their controlled manipulation by external parameters such as the interaction with a substrate or adsorbed molecules. These materials are interesting with respect to their use as programmable building blocks of a future spin electronics. An important aspect is also their ultrafast spin dynamics.

Methoden:
Following deposition in ultra-high vacuum, they are characterized by surfacescience techniques and x-ray photoemission as well as x-ray absorption spectroscopy. Experiments will be carried out in the university laboratory in Berlin-Dahlem and at the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II in Berlin-Adlershof. We provide excellent conditions for motivated experimentalists. Extensive equipment for X-ray spectroscopy and state-of-the-art surface science analysis tools can be used.

A master's degree is required with a master thesis in experimental physics or equivalent. We are seeking a motivated candidate with team spirit and ability for independent work. Experience in one or more of the following is of advantage: surface science, ultrahigh vacuum technology, x-ray spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation.
