Job Opening Chinese Studies, Heidelberg

At the Institute of Chinese Studies, University of Heidelberg, Germany, an
on-line course introducing the use of digital resources in Chinese Studies
will be developed over the next three years in cooperation with the
University of Tuebingen and funding provided by the Baden-Wuerttemberg
Ministry for Science, Research, and Art, and the Alfried Krupp von
Bohlen and Halbach Stiftung (Essen).

For the development of this course, a position is being funded for three
years on a 3/4 BAT IIa level. Applicants for this position should have the
following qualifications:

- Degree in Chinese Studies with good command of modern spoken and written
Chinese as well as classical Chinese;
- Fluency in English as this will be the language of the course;
- Excellent familiarity with sinological on-line resources both in Western
languages and in Chinese;
- Skills, and possibly experience, in developing teaching materials;
- Capacity to quickly acquire new skills in program handling on the basis of a
solid basic familiarity and routine in handling standard computer software
as well as different Chinese encodings;
- Experience in relating complex skills to inexperienced users with the help
of different forms and media (on-line, on-site presentations, courses...)
would be appreciated;
- Goal-oriented approach that will secure that at the conclusion of the three
year period the on-line course is to be functional in the way described in
the funding application.

Work will be done in Heidelberg, and the successful applicant is required to
take up residence here.
