New in IGCS - Business and Economy:

Taiwan jingji yanjiu yuan 台灣經濟研究院 (Taiwan Institute of Economic
Research, TIER)

Ed./Corp.: Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, Taipei, Taiwan
URL: http://www.tier.org.tw/
Language: Chinese (Big5), English.

Self description: "[...] established on September 1, 1976 by Dr. Chen-fu
Koo as the first private independent research institute in Taiwan. The
purposes of the Institute are to actively engage in research on domestic
and foreign macroeconomics and industrial economics, to provide
consultations for government and businesses, and to promote Taiwan's
economic development."

Description: Private institution with a strong governmental backing and a
staff of more than 100 economists. Explicitly supported by some of Taiwan's
leading figures in the field, including the late Prof. Tsiang Sho-chieh and
John C. Fei. Internal organization encompasses seven divisions, one of
which is dealing with the Mainland economy and cross-straits economic
interactions. With an extra office in Tokyo, the TIER's main international
focus lies, however, more on Japan than on Mainland China. The site is
well-structured (albeit somewhat overloaded) and regularly up-dated.

Site contents: (1) Lists of major publications and officially sponsored
reports, including some on cross-straits economic relations; (2) On-line
editions of the weekly "jingji pinglun" (Economic Forum) and the "Taiwan
jingji yuekan" (Taiwan Economic Monthly); (3) Extensive link-collection of
online journals, most of which are published by central and provincial
government organs.
