New in IGCS - Scholarly journals:

Historiography East and West: A Multi-Lingual On-line Journal For Studies In
Comparative Historiography And Historical Thinking

Ed./Corp.: Brill Academic Publisher, Leiden, The Netherlands.
URL.: http://www.let.leidenuniv.nl/axelschneider/hgew/index.htm
Language: English and Chinese, with some articles written in Dutch, French,
German, and Japanese.

ISSN: 1570-1867.
Numbering: 1.1 (2003) -.
Frequency: Semiannual.

Supplied note: "This is a most exciting undertaking. Historiography East and
West envisions the creation of a new space where scholars will be able both
to advance understanding of Asian historical theory and practice through
comparison with Western history-writing traditions, and at the same time
invigorate Western historiography by encouraging its engagement with the
history-writing traditions of Asia. This is precisely the direction we
should be moving in if we hope to acquire a more inclusive, less parochially
grounded, appreciation of how over time diverse human communities have
thought, felt, and written about the past." (Paul Cohen, Harvard University,
USA)

Self description: "[...] The editorial board of Historiography East and West
is committed to the idea of opening a worldwide discussion on issues of
history writing and therefore invites contributors to submit their
manuscripts in Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, and Japanese.
Manuscripts will go through a process of peer-review and, once accepted for
publication, will be accompanied by summaries in English and Chinese to make
readers aware of their contents who are not able to read them in their
respective language of publication. Outstanding articles first published in
the online-journal will be selected for republication in a book every other
year. [...]"

Description: Edited by Axel Schneider, Leiden University, The Netherlands,
and Susanne Weigelin-Schwiedrzik, Vienna University, Austria.

Availability: 1st issue free, then tables of contents only.

Note: Documents available in RealPage, PDF and SVG formats only.
