Dear mailing list subscribers,

A new version of MB (6.83) has been released. The main focus has been on
data management and creation of different profiles for analyses.

The main new features are:

FASTA format support: Restriction and protein analysis features have now a
new option “Load sequence in FASTA format”. The sequences are loaded into
the program at run-time, which means that you do not have to save your data.
Selecting this option and starting the analysis will cause a new form to
appear, where you can copy/paste your FASTA sequence.
Multiple sequence alignment plugin can now analyze a list of FASTA sequences
stored in one file, it is not necessary to save each single sequence anymore.

“Profiles”: When analyzing larger datasets it’s a good idea to split your
sequence data into several directories or use different restriction
profiles. There is now a small program called “startmb.exe” in the MB’s main
directory, when copied to a separate folder containing desired sequence
files along with the database of the restriction enzymes, it will let the
program analyze only the sequences in the current folder, using custom
restriction enzyme search list. Please seek more detailed instructions in
the manual supplied with the program (Chapter 6.1).

New plugin: Report Manager (RepMan): Right-clicking on MB’s report windows
will now let a small popup-menu to appear with an option “Export to RepMan”.
Clicking on it will transfer your data (image and text) to the report
manager utility for further editing. You can now combine data from different
analyses and save them to a HTML file as well as to a single file in a
special RepMan’s format (“rmn”), which can be accessed anytime by the
program and saves a lot of disk space. RepMan is an external program, which
means that it does not depend on the main MB application and can be run
without it. Read more about this utility in the manual (Chapter 8).

Other changes include:
- sequence editor can now select user-defined fragments, it also displays
position of the cursor
- sequence translator can now create inverse sequences
- new option in “Import DNA/amino acid sequence” window: import sequences
and restriction site list from pDRAW's PDW files

The program is also accessible through the automatic update feature.
PLEASE NOTE: To keep your existing restriction site database/seach profile
from being overwritten, you might want to create a backup of existing
“database” directory.

We hope that you find the latest additions useful! Please report any
problems with the download or usage of new features to [log in to unmask]

Regards,

MB Team
