New in IGCS - News Media (revised entry):

Mingbao ©ú ³ø (Ming Pao Daily News)

Ed./Corp.: Ming Pao Group, Hong Kong
URL: http://www.hknet.com/mingpao/
Language: Chinese (Big5).
Description: Ming Pao Daily News, launched in 1959, is online since
September 1995. The paper is positioning itself as a leading 'intellectual
paper'. It is not linked to any political party and advertising-supported.
Ming Pao is also distributed in Macao, USA, Canada and Europe. Once very
critical towards Mainland China the paper has softened its voice since a
change of ownership of the paper in 1995. For a critical evaluation of the
political standing of Ming Pao see the following article: Joseph Kahn: "A
Hong Kong Newspaper Softens Its Voice. Like Many Others in Colony, Ming Pao
Hews Closer to Beijing’s Line." In: The Asian Wall Street Journal (April
22, 1997), reproduced in CPJ Hong-Kong Report Page, URL:
http://www.cpj.org/hong_kong/soften.html [accessed Oct. 29, 1998].
