I've never used T1 encoding. No Computer Modern at all, or type-1 versions (the typewriter font is still the best ;-)). So when you froze T1 encoded fonts into the core that means that after building the format file I need these T1 fonts. But I'm not aware of free type-1 fonts for T1 encoding.
