I am editing a .tex manuscript for a journal that
uses square brackets (i. e., [ ]) around the footnote numbers in the text, but
not in the footnotes themselves. I would be really grateful for any
information about how to do this---or , indeed, to learn whether it is even
possible. I have used LaTex for years, but have always only used the
standard packages.
