Hello,

First of I'd like to introduce myself to this mailing-list. I'm the
author of `xindy' a new index processor that will (in our opinion) be
the successor of the well-known `makeindex' system.

If you are interested in what are the most important features of xindy
visit our offical homepage

        http://www.iti.informatik.th-darmstadt.de/xindy

There exists a mailing-list about xindy (additional information can be
found on our homepage) and we are currently discussing how xindy
should deal with the sorting of language- (or even document-)specific
alphabets. This problem seems to be of general interest and therefore
I'd like to bring it into broader discussion.

I've prepared a short paper discussing the sort mapping feature of
xindy. The current implementation seems to be not powerful enough to
handle arbitrary sorting rules, thus we have to think about a better
solution.

The discussion paper and additional information about the problem can
be found in the section "Discussion" on the xindy homepage.

You are welcome to subscribe to our mailing list and participate in
the discussion.

Bye Roger
