Requiring BibTeX? At least in Mathematics where the speed
of publication and the pool of potential references for a given
topic are relatively low, BibTeX can be quite an obstruction.

Especially in the case of several authors collaborating
via e-mail, and each author being involved in several disjoint
collaborations, I don't know how to efficiently use bibtex
other than having a separate bibliography database for each paper
(which directly contradicts the goal of bibtex...)

Writing a bibliography is trivial compared to every other aspect
in writing a paper, so let's leave it that way.
