Academic Info: Asian Studies - Directory of Online Resources

Ed./Corp.: Mike Madin, Academic Info, [USA?]
URL.: http://www.academicinfo.net/asia.html
Language: English.

Self description: Mission: Improve access to online educational resources by developing an easy to use subject directory covering each academic discipline. Increase educational opportunities for students in rural and underrepresented communities by giving them the same online experience as students from more privileged communities. [...] The primary focus of the site must be academic, with its intended audience at the upper high school level or above. A priority is adding digital collections from libraries, museums, and academic organizations and sites offering unique online content. Will add annotated subject directories but not sites with only a 'list of links.' [...]"

Description: This is a subsite of academicinfo.net, a directory of educational online resources maintained by Mike Madin. After ten years at the University of Washington's Gallagher Law Library Madin left in 2000 to work full time on Academic Info. Many links are briefly annotated, mostly using the site's self description. Sorting is alphabetically (page-title), which does not make it too comfortable to use. The search (as the table of contents) can be accessed from the mainpage only, but boolean operators can be used. The site displays sponsored links.

Contents: Afghanistan Studies, China Studies (General Links, Reference Desk, Digital Library, Libraries & Print Archives, Chinese Language Study, Chinese History, Religions in China, Chinese Law & Gov, Chinese Cinema, Organizations), India Studies, Japan Studies, North Korea, Tibet, Buddhist Studies (Digital Library, Links & General Resources, Zen Buddhism, Buddhist Art, Women & Buddhism, Buddhism in America, Sanskrit Studies, Centers & Organizations, Reference Desk), Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Asian American Studies, SARS, See Also.
