er that seemed an unnecessary hurdle, and the code also runs in plain
(now) so the current suggestion (as checked in to github) is that we use
luatexbase table (and have removed "latex error" and other latexisms
from the core). Your thoughts on that change welcome....

certainly (exact mechanism to be decided:-) but the idea is not to
