Ewas kurzfristig, aber vielleicht erreicht diese Mail doch den einen oder
anderen an Matlab-Interessierten.

Sehr geehrte Kolloquiums-Interessenten,

hiermit laden wir Sie herzlich ein zu dem Vortrag

'Using Matlab in the Life Sciences'

'Using Matlab in the Life Sciences'

Researchers and software developers in the life sciences all over the world
use the MATLAB product family as a flexible platform for algorithm
development and application deployment. Technical tasks in the life sciences
include the processing of biosignal data, customizing algorithms in
bioinformatics, and building applications for gene sequencing and expression
array analysis.

Solutions in this area from The MathWorks today are successfully used by the
biological Max-Planck-Institutes all over Germany or at several Universities
e.g. the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg, Ruprecht-Karls-University of
Heidelberg or Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen.

The lecture will begin with an introduction to MATLAB and some new features
from the latest version, followed by a discussion covering the use of MATLAB
for some typical image processing tasks from the life sciences: transforming
MRI images and segmenting images of cells. We conclude with a demonstration
of the use of MATLAB for data analysis and application development for
bioinformatics, focussing on microarray and mass spectrometry data.
