Let's warn them in 2003 and give them one year of time to get to
grips.
If they don't, a compatibility file which does
\let\beginL\undefined
\let\beginR\undefined
should not be too hard to do. But it would preclude (like now)
documents using french.sty to have a chance to typeset RL texts in a
standard manner.
High time to give them a better reason not to sabotage the Middle
East if they have not seen a good one yet.
